Windows & Doors

Windows are the first thing I notice when I walk into a building. My father owned the White Pine Sash Company in Glendale, New York which manufactured wooden windows and doors. In my childhood house growing up on Long Island, my father designed my favorite window which was in the living room. Eight feet long, it was made of small panes and slid lengthwise on a track. Next to it was a Dutch door looking out to the patio. The bottom half stayed shut but the top opened. Though the Dutch door was invented in the 17th century to keep animals out of farmhouses, the design was handy for my mom to keep young children inside or just open and call for them. I especially love to take pictures of windows and doors when traveling abroad: different colors, materials, designs, weathering, winding flowers enhancing them.
